Marine Weather Statement
Issued 2:54 AM NDT 21 September 2023 A trough of low pressure over Eastern Newfoundland will move to lieover the Grand Banks tonight. Strong to gale force northeast to
northwesterlies are expected in its wake.
Marine interests are advised that gale warnings are in effect for
Strait of Belle Isle, East Coast, Northeast Coast, Belle Isle Bank,
Funk Island Bank, and Northern Grand Banks.
At 12:30 PM NDT, hurricane nigel was located near latitude 39.0
north, and longitude 50.4 west, or about 475 nautical miles southeast
of Cape Race. Maximum sustained winds are estimated at 80 knots and
central pressure at 973 MB. Nigel is moving toward the northeast at
22 knots.
Hurricane nigel is expected to pass southeast of the Grand Banks
today. Moderate to strong north to northwesterlies are expected in
the southernmost parts of the Southern Grand Banks as nigel passes.
