Wind south 35 to 45 knots increasing to southwest 45 to 55 this evening then veering to northwest 45 to 55 near midnight. Wind diminishing to northwest 35 Saturday morning and to northwest 25 Saturday afternoon.

Showers with a risk of thunderstorms changing to flurries after midnight. Fog patches dissipating this evening. Visibility 1 mile or less in fog patches and in flurries.

Freezing spray warning in effect.

Freezing spray over northwestern sections Saturday.

Temperatures plus 5 falling to zero Saturday morning becoming minus 5 to zero Saturday morning.

Tonight and Saturday. Seas 7 to 9 metres building to 9 to 12 this evening then subsiding to 7 to 9 Saturday morning. Seas subsiding to 5 to 7 Saturday afternoon.

Issued 3:30 PM NST 17 January 2020 Tonight and Saturday At 3:30 p.m. NST today intensifying low 962 mb located over the
southwestern Grand Banks.
By 3:30 p.m. NST Saturday low 956 mb located northeast of Belle
Isle Bank.

Marine Weather Statement

Issued 3:26 PM NST 17 January 2020 A very intense low pressure system over the Southwestern Grand Banks
will continue to strengthen as it crosses the Grand Banks tonight
then moves northeast of the marine district on Saturday. Gale to
storm force easterlies ahead of the low and storm to hurricane force
northerlies in its wake will gradually diminish throughout the day on
Saturday as it departs.

Marine interests are advised that hurricane force wind warnings are
in effect for South Coast, East Coast, Belle Isle Bank, Funk Island
Bank, and Northern Grand Banks. Storm warnings are in effect for all
remaining waters except Strait of Belle Isle - western half and Gulf
waters where gale warnings are in effect.

Marine interests are also advised that freezing spray warnings are in
effect for all waters.

Marine interests are further advised that high water level warnings
are in effect for East Coast and Northeast Coast.
