Hurricane force wind warning in effect.

Wind northwest 35 to 45 knots diminishing to northwest 25 to 35 early this evening and to northwest 20 late this evening. Wind diminishing to light after midnight then increasing to east 35 Wednesday morning. Wind increasing to east 40 to 50 Wednesday afternoon and to southwest 60 to 70 Wednesday evening except northeast 50 to 60 over northwestern sections.

Flurries or showers ending this evening. Rain or snow beginning late overnight. Visibility 1 mile or less in precipitation.

Technical Marine Synopsis

Issued 3:30 PM NST 11 December 2018 Tonight and Wednesday At 3:30 p.m. NST today trough located on a line northeast-southwest
over southern Funk Island Bank.
By 8:00 p.m. NST tonight departing trough located east of the
Grand Banks.

At 3:30 p.m. NST today ridge located over the Maritimes.
By 10:00 a.m. NST Wednesday ridge located on a line
northwest-southeast over the northern Grand Banks.

At 8:00 p.m. NST tonight intensifying low 999 mb located 400 miles
east of Cape Hatteras.
By 8:00 p.m. NST Wednesday low 958 mb located over the southeastern
Grand Banks.

Marine Weather Statement

Issued 3:10 PM NST 11 December 2018 A trough of low pressure over Southern Funk Island Bank will continue
drifting southeastward to lie east of the district this evening.
Strong to gale force north to northwesterly winds around the trough
will diminish as it pulls away.

A low pressure system developing off Cape Hatteras is forecast to
rapidly intensify into a major storm as it approaches, crossing the
Grand Banks Wednesday afternoon through Wednesday night. Gale to
storm force east to northeasterlies will spread across southern and
eastern waters overnight through Wednesday ahead of the low then
shift to gale to storm force north to northwesterlies in its wake.
South of the low, storm to hurricane force southwesterlies can be
expected over the Southeastern Grand Banks Wednesday evening.

Marine interests are advised that a hurricane force wind warning is
in effect for Southeastern Grand Banks. Storm warnings are in effect
for East Coast - Cape St. Francis and south, Northern Grand Banks and
Southwestern Grand Banks. Gale warnings are in effect for all
remaining waters except the Strait of Belle Isle, Gulf waters,
Southwest Coast and Northeast Coast.

Marine interests are also advised that freezing spray warnings are in
effect for Strait of Belle Isle and Gulf waters.
