Technical Marine Synopsis

Issued 10:00 AM NST 8 December 2021 Today Tonight and Thursday At 10:00 a.m. NST today weakening low 952 mb located over central
Labrador Sea.
By 3:00 a.m. NST Thursday departing low 970 mb located southeast
of Greenland.

At 8:00 p.m. NST tonight intensifying low 1002 mb located southeast
of Cape Cod.
By 8:00 p.m. NST Thursday deepening low 966 mb located northeast
of the Avalon Peninsula.

At 10:00 a.m. NST today ridge located over Nova Scotia.
By 3:00 a.m. NST Thursday ridge located over the Northeast Coast
of Newfoundland.

Marine Weather Statement

Issued 10:07 AM NST 8 December 2021 A very intense low pressure system over the East Labrador Sea will
slowly weaken as it tracks eastward to lie southeast of Greenland
tonight. Strong to gale force west to southwesterlies to the south of
the low will gradually diminish today and tonight.

Another low pressure system will rapidly intensify as it approaches
from the southwest tonight. The low will track across the
Southeastern Avalon Peninsula Thursday afternoon as a major fall
storm. Gale force easterlies to northerlies ahead of the low and gale
force southerlies to its east will shift to gale to storm force
westerlies to northerlies in its wake. Hurricane force
southwesterlies can be expected over the Southern Grand Banks later
Thursday south of the low.

Marine interests are advised that hurricane force wind warnings are
in effect for the Southern Grand Banks. Storm warnings are in effect
for Southwest Coast, South Coast, East Coast, Northeast Coast, Funk
Island Bank and the Northern Grand Banks. Gale warnings are in effect
for Strait of Belle Isle, Northeast Gulf and Belle Isle Bank.

Marine interests are also advised that freezing spray warnings are in
effect for Strait of Belle Isle, Gulf waters, and Belle Isle Bank.

Marine interests are further advised to prepare for potentially
dangerous and damaging high waves, pounding surf, and higher than
normal water levels along the northeast and east coasts of
Newfoundland Thursday afternoon through Thursday night.
