Marine Weather StatementIssued 9:51 AM NST 16 December 2017 A weakening low pressure system over the Northwestern Labrador Sea
will drift slowly eastward during the forecast period. Strong to gale
force southwesterlies over northern waters will diminish today.
A second intensifying low pressure system will approach from the
southwest to pass just southeast of the Avalon Peninsula this
evening. North of the low, gale to storm force northeasterlies will
shift to gale to storm force northwesterlies. To its south, gale to
storm force southerlies will veer to storm to hurricane force west to
northwesterlies. Winds will diminish to strong to gale force west to
northwesterlies by Sunday morning.
Marine interests are advised that hurricane force wind warnings are
in effect for the South Coast, East Coast - Cape St. Francis and
south, and the Northern Grand Banks. Storm warnings are in effect for
East Coast - north of Cape St. Francis, Funk Island Bank and the
Southern Grand Banks. Gale warnings are in effect for all remaining
waters except Northeast Gulf and Gulf - Port au Port.
Marine interests are also advised that freezing spray warnings are in
effect for Strait of Belle Isle, Gulf waters, Northeast Coast and
Belle Isle Bank.
