Technical Marine Synopsis

Issued 10:00 AM AST 17 January 2020 Today Tonight and Saturday At 10:00 a.m. AST today intensifying low 965 mb located over
Laurentian Fan.
By 3:00 a.m. AST Saturday low 955 mb located northeast of
Newfoundland.

At 3:00 a.m. AST Saturday ridge located west of the Marine District.
By 8:00 p.m. AST Saturday ridge located from Quebec to West
Scotian Slope.

Marine Weather Statement

Issued 9:58 AM AST 17 January 2020 An intensifying low pressure system over Laurentian Fan will move to
lie over the Grand Banks this evening, before turning northward to
lie northeast of Newfoundland by Saturday morning. Gale to hurricane
force northerlies can be expected in the wake of the low. Diminishing
winds are expected on Saturday as a ridge of high pressure builds in
from the west.

Marine interests are advised that hurricane force warnings are in
effect for Banquereau and Laurentian Fan. Storm warnings are in
effect for West Scotian Slope, eastern shore, Sable, East Scotian
Slope, Fourchu, and Cabot Strait. Gale warnings are in effect for all
remaining regions.

Freezing spray warnings are in effect for all waters except Georges
Bank.

High waves and storm surge may affect the Southern Gulf of St.
Lawrence and Cape Breton Island today. This may cause some minor
coastal flooding and overwash on north to northeast facing shorelines
during the high tides starting near noon and ending this afternoon.
