Technical Marine Synopsis

Issued 3:00 AM NST 21 January 2019 Today Tonight and Tuesday At 3:00 a.m. NST today low 985 mb located over the Maritimes.
By 8:00 p.m. NST tonight quasi-stationary low 987 mb located over
the Gulf of St. Lawrence.

At 3:00 a.m. NST today trough located on a line north-south over
Nova Scotia.
By 3:00 a.m. NST Tuesday trough located on a line north-south over
the Grand Banks.

Marine Weather Statement

Issued 2:50 AM NST 21 January 2019 An elongated area of low pressure over the Maritimes will span from
the Gulf of St. Lawrence to Belle Isle Bank by this evening, where it
will remain nearly stationary throughout the forecast period.
An associated trough will move eastward across the marine district
today and tonight. Gale to storm force south to southeasterlies can
be expected ahead of the trough, with strong to gale force
northeasterlies to the north of the low.

Marine interests are advised that a storm warning is in effect for
Gulf - Port au Port - southeastern half. Gale warnings are in effect
for all remaining waters.

Marine interests are also advised that freezing spray warnings are in
effect for Strait of Belle Isle, the Gulf waters, and Belle Isle
Bank.

Marine interests are further advised that very strong southerly winds
will generate large waves, pounding surf, and higher than normal
waters levels along parts of Southwestern Newfoundland this morning
during high tide. Storm surge and risk of coastal flooding is
expected to be highest along south facing shorelines between cape ray
and Burgeo.
