Marine Weather Statement

Issued 7:57 PM AST 17 January 2018 A low pressure system currently over Browns Bank will move along
The Atlantic coastline of Nova Scotia tonight reaching Cabot Strait
Thursday morning and then Central Newfoundland Thursday afternoon.
Strong to gale force southeasterlies ahead of this system will become
moderate to strong northwesterlies in its wake.

In addition, recent buoy and satellite-based wind observations have
identified a broad area of near-gale force southeasterlies associated
with this system. Environment and climate change Canada expects this
low pressure system to intensify further this evening and as a result
gale force winds are expected to develop over Sable this evening. At
this time gale warnings are not expected to be extended further south
or east; near gale force southeasterlies are expected until winds
shift to northerly in the wake of this feature.

Furthermore, another low will pass south of the marine district late
Thursday into Friday bringing strong northerlies to most of the
Scotian Slope waters and northerly gales to Laurentian Fan.

Marine interests are advised that a gale warning is in effect for
southwestern shore, eastern shore, and Sable.

Marine interests are also advised that freezing spray warnings are in
effect for Gulf-Magdalen and Anticosti.
