Lake Winnipeg - north basin

Issued 3:39 PM CST 17 January 2020 Snow and freezing drizzle spread into southeastern and south central Manitoba Friday afternoon and will move into portions of southwestern Manitoba and the central Interlake tonight. The freezing drizzle is expected to end as the snow develops however the snow will persist overnight into Saturday with snowfall totals of 5 to 10 cm expected by Saturday evening. Higher amounts are expected over the Red River valley and southeastern Manitoba where warnings are currently in place.

Through the night, moderate northwesterly winds will develop, combining with the falling snow to produce areas of reduced visibility in blowing snow which will persist on Saturday with improvement occurring Saturday night.

Warnings are in place for numerous regions in southern Manitoba. Please stay alert for updated bulletins. Anyone who has plans to travel on area highways tonight or Saturday should ensure that they check local weather forecasts ( regional highway conditions ( before travelling. Ensure that your vehicle contains a winter emergency kit ( in case poor travelling conditions cause you to be stranded for a period of time. Poor travelling conditions will also develop through the Dakotas and Minnesota, where this system will bring higher snowfall accumulations along with strong winds.
