Issued 08:32 AM CST 18 January 2026 A prolonged period of very cold wind chills is expected.

Hazard: Wind chill values of -40.

Location: Lake Winnipeg.

Timing: Ending late Monday morning.

Extreme cold puts everyone at risk.

Watch for cold related symptoms: shortness of breath, chest pain, muscle pain and weakness, numbness and colour change in fingers and toes.

Cover up. Frostbite can develop within minutes on exposed skin, especially with wind chill.

Cold warnings are issued when very cold temperatures or wind chill creates an elevated risk to health such as frost bite and hypothermia.

Blizzard warning in effect

Lake Winnipeg - north basin

Issued 02:46 AM CST 18 January 2026 Blizzard conditions with gusty winds and visibility frequently near zero in snow and blowing snow are expected.

Hazard: Widespread near zero visibilities in snow and blowing snow with winds gusting to 80 km/h.

Location: Lake Manitoba, Lake Winnipegosis and Lake Winnipeg.

Timing: Beginning early Sunday morning and ending Sunday evening.

Remarks: Another clipper system passing through the province will bring several centimetres of fresh snow to the region tonight. Strong northwesterly winds gusting to 80 km/h will develop early Sunday morning along with whiteout blizzard conditions and falling temperatures for the day. Winds will ease in the evening.

Travel will be dangerous and likely impossible due to near-zero visibility. Avoid travel and outdoor activities, if possible. Blizzard warnings are issued when near-zero visibility in blowing snow is expected.
