Blowing snow advisory in effect

Lake Winnipeg - north basin

Issued 3:45 PM CST 19 January 2021 Poor visibility in snow and blowing snow is expected or occurring in some locations.

Strong southerly winds gusting to 70 km/h accompanied by falling snow overnight will bring blowing snow with sharply reduced visibilities on Lake Winnipeg beginning this evening. Some improvement is expected early Wednesday before a cold front with northerly gusts to 70 km/h sweeps across the north basin of the lake Wednesday afternoon, bringing a fresh round of blowing snow. Conditions should improve everywhere by Thursday morning.

Travel is expected to be hazardous due to reduced visibility.

Blowing snow advisories are issued when winds are expected to create blowing snow giving poor visibility to 800 metres or less for at least 3 hours.

Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to MBstorm@canada.ca or tweet reports using #MBStorm.
