Lake Winnipegosis
Issued 9:24 PM CST 25 January 2021 A period of very cold wind chills is expected.Extreme cold will occur over much of southern Saskatchewan and southern Manitoba tonight.
Wind chills of minus 40 or colder will be felt over the southern Prairies tonight and Tuesday morning.
An Arctic ridge of high pressure continues to give frigid temperatures to portions of central and southern Saskatchewan and the southern half of Manitoba. Temperatures in the minus thirties along with winds of 10 to 15 km/h will produce extreme cold windchills of minus 40 or colder tonight and Tuesday morning. Some moderation will occur on Tuesday afternoon, but some regions may experience extreme cold again Tuesday night.
Extreme cold puts everyone at risk.
Risks are greater for young children, older adults, people with chronic illnesses, people working or exercising outdoors, and those without proper shelter.
Cover up. Frostbite can develop within minutes on exposed skin, especially with wind chill.
If it's too cold for you to stay outside, it's too cold for your pet to stay outside.
