Marine weather advisory in effect

West Davis

Issued 01:37 AM EST 19 November 2018 Strong northerly winds will develop today and persist into Tuesday as a strong low pressure system tracks westward from the Atlantic Ocean into Davis Straight. Sustained winds of 40 to 55 knots are expected to develop this afternoon. The strongest storm force winds will occur off the tip of the Cumberland Peninsula, with wind gusts up to 70 knots possible. Some snow is expected to spread across the region and combined with the strong winds, blizzard conditions with near zero visibility can be expected Monday afternoon into Tuesday particularly near the ice edge.

Marine interests in the area should also be aware of the possibility of rapid development of an intense, compact low pressure center in the southern Brevoort region Monday evening and tracking northwards. Sharp changes in wind speed and direction will occur in the vicinity of this developing low.
