Technical Marine Synopsis
Issued 4:00 AM NST 5 February 2023 Today Tonight and Monday At 4:00 a.m. NST today low 950 mb located over the southern EastLabrador Sea.
By 4:00 p.m. NST today departing low 976 mb located south of
Greenland.
By 4:00 p.m. NST today quasi-stationary trough located over
southern Greenland.
By 4:00 p.m. NST Monday building ridge located over western
Labrador.
Marine Weather Statement
Issued 3:45 AM NST 5 February 2023 A low pressure system over the Southern East Labrador Sea will drifteast of the marine district today. Storm force northerlies associated
with the low will diminish to gale force northwesterlies in its wake
and further weaken to strong to gale force west to southwesterlies
later today as it departs.
Meanwhile, a trough will stall over Southern Greenland as a ridge of
high pressure builds in from the west. The interaction of these two
features will cause strong to gale force westerlies to persist over
the marine district throughout the forecast period.
Marine interests are advised that storm warnings are in effect for
South Labrador Coast, Mid Labrador Coast, South Labrador Sea,
Northwest Labrador Sea - southeastern half, and East Labrador Sea.
Gale warnings are in effect for all remaining waters.
Marine interests are also advised that freezing spray warnings are in
effect for the South Labrador Sea, Northwest Labrador Sea -
southeastern half and East Labrador Sea.
