Marine Weather Statement

Issued 10:01 AM PST 17 February 2018 An area of low pressure will continue across Vancouver Island this
morning, coming to rest near Victoria by midday. A trough of low
pressure will deepen along the entire mainland coast through the day
while high pressure builds over the BC Interior.

Gale force southeasterly winds ahead of the advancing low will give
way to prolonged gale to storm force northerly winds for the majority
of outer coastal waters. Gale force outflow winds will also be a
factor near mainland inlets. These winds will continue well into
Sunday before beginning to ease.

With the prolonged northerly winds offshore, waves reaching 9 metres
are expected for offshore waters west of Vancouver Island on Sunday.

A risk of freezing spray will exist through Douglas Channel tonight
and Sunday as Arctic air floods out of the BC Interior and
temperatures plummet.
