Hurricane force wind warning in effect.

Wind southeast 35 to 45 knots increasing to southeast 45 to 55 near midnight except southeast 65 near the headlands overnight and Saturday morning. Wind becoming southwest 45 to 55 near noon Saturday then diminishing to southwest 30 to 40 Saturday afternoon. Wind backing to southeast 25 to 35 early Saturday evening then increasing to southeast 35 to 45 late Saturday evening.

Periods of rain. Visibility 1 mile or less in rain.

Synopsis

Technical Marine Synopsis

Issued 9:30 PM PST 20 December 2024 Tonight and Saturday At 9:30 p.m. PST tonight ridge located over BC interior.

At 4:00 a.m. PST Saturday frontal system located on a line
northwest-southeast over the offshore waters.
By 4:00 p.m. PST Saturday departing frontal system located from
Haida Gwaii to the Central Coast.

Marine Weather Statement

Issued 9:18 PM PST 20 December 2024 A frontal system will approach the offshore waters tonight and track
northeastward across the marine regions on Saturday. Gale to storm
force southeasterlies will return ahead of this system with
Hurricane force southeasterlies expected near the headlands of West
Vancouver Island north.

This system will reach Haida Gwaii Saturday afternoon with gale to
storm force southwesterlies in its wake.

Gale force outflow winds will prevail through the mainland inlets as
a ridge of high pressure remains over the interior.
