Discussion.

On September 2, thunderstorms brought a variety of severe weather to 
parts of southern Ontario, most notably to the Greater Golden 
Horseshoe and southwestern Ontario. Multiple alerts were issued for 
severe hail, straight line winds, heavy rainfall and possible 
tornadoes. 

The most intense storms occurred in the late afternoon, specifically 
one that moved in off Lake Huron tracking southeastward through 
Kitchener-Waterloo and one that tracked directly through the Greater 
Toronto Area. There have been multiple reports of downed trees and 
power lines due to strong winds, including a barn destroyed in 
Brucefield, a roof partially removed from the Woodbridge Soccer 
Centre and significant damage to the Rogers Stadium in Toronto. Very 
large hail over North York shattered car windshields and apartment 
windows. More than 150,000 customers were left without power across 
the province, including more than 50,000 from Hydro One and 65,000 
from Toronto Hydro. Widespread flooding was reported in Toronto and 
Vaughan.

Additionally, a tornado was confirmed on radar northwest of 
Kitchener near the Bamberg area around 5:30 P.M. EDT on September 2. 
Northern Tornadoes Project will be surveying the damage to provide 
more details and help determine the rating.
