Orange Warning - Cold

Impact Level: High

Forecast Confidence: High

A prolonged period of cold will continue through the weekend, with wind chill values between minus 50 and minus 60. The coldest wind chills are occurring now and will improve slightly tonight as winds weaken. Temperatures will remain in the mid to low minus 30s with wind chill values near minus 50 at times through the next week. Any associated impacts may not see opportunities for improvement until the following weekend. Extreme cold puts everyone at risk. Risks are greater for young children, older adults, people with chronic illnesses, people working or exercising outdoors, and those without proper shelter. Watch for cold related symptoms: shortness of breath, chest pain, muscle pain and weakness, numbness and colour change in fingers and toes. Cover up. Frostbite can develop within minutes on exposed skin, especially with wind chill. Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to NTstorm@ec.gc.ca, call 1-800-239-0484 or post reports on X using #NTStorm.
