Coastal Flooding Alerts for: Vancouver Island Coastline from Clo-oose to East Sooke

This warning is in effect for parts of the coast due to the following hazard(s): High storm surge. Large waves. Higher than normal water levels. Elevated ocean water levels accompanied by significant wind and waves are expected, likely exceeding highest astronomical tide. What: - Coastal flooding due to large waves coinciding with high tide - Storm surge may rise up to 100 cm above highest astronomical tide When: Near high tide (midday) on Saturday Where: West Vancouver Island from East Sooke to Cape Scott Additional information: A deep low pressure system is poised to make landfall over northern Vancouver Island on Saturday. As it does, very strong southeast winds will veer to very strong southwest and push significant wave heights of 5 to 7 metres onshore onto the west coast of Vancouver Island. The timing of the very strong southwest winds will coincide with high tide, resulting in the potential for storm surge to reach 50 to 80 cm above high tide. Locally, the storm surge may reach 100 cm.
