BLOWING SNOW ADVISORY

Blowing Snow Advisory in effect for:
  • R.M. of St. Andrews incl. Selkirk Lockport and Ponemah

Poor visibility in snow and blowing snow is expected or occurring in some locations. Reduced visibilities in blowing snow are expected in open areas of the Red River Valley overnight tonight as gusts of 60 to 70 km/h develop. Widespread poor visibilities in blowing snow, approaching zero at times, will encompass most of the region during the day on Wednesday as winds increase to 60 gusting to 80 km/h. Winds will abate and visibilities will improve over the northern Red River Valley, including the city of Winnipeg, by late Wednesday afternoon. Improvement over the south is expected come Wednesday evening. Travel is expected to be hazardous due to reduced visibility. Visibility may be significantly and suddenly reduced to near zero. If visibility is reduced while driving, slow down, watch for tail lights ahead and be prepared to stop. Consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve. Ensure that shelter is provided for pets and outdoor animals. Blowing snow advisories are issued when winds are expected to create blowing snow giving poor visibility to 800 metres or less for at least 3 hours.
