YELLOW WATCH - SEVERE THUNDERSTORM

Impact Level: Moderate

Forecast Confidence: High

Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain. Locations: Portions of southern Manitoba. Potential rainfall rates: locally 30 to 50 mm per hour in thunderstorms. Potential wind gusts: 90 km/h or higher in thunderstorms. Time span: Early this afternoon until this evening. Remarks: Another round of severe weather is likely across parts of southern Manitoba starting early this afternoon. Storms should form along a frontal boundary moving east across the province’s southwest this afternoon. As they move east‑northeast, the main threats will be large hail (2.5–4 cm), strong gusty winds, and heavy rainfall. The risk of severe weather will gradually diminish this evening, progressing from west to east. Be prepared for severe weather. If threatening weather approaches, take cover in a basement or interior room. If outside, protect yourself from flying debris and hail. When thunder roars, go indoors! Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms capable of producing damaging hail, wind or rain. Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to MBstorm@ec.gc.ca, call 1-800-239-0484 or post reports on X using #MBStorm.
