Snowfall Warning in effect for:
  • West Kootenay

Snowfall with total amounts of 15 to 25 cm is expected. Where: West Kootenay - Rossland, Trail, and higher elevations, Kootenay Lake - southern sections including Creston, Elk Valley - near Fernie When: Tonight and Thursday morning. Remarks: Moisture is being pumped up into the Kootenays from the south and is running into cold air being pushed down from the north creating periods of heavy snow over the region. The heaviest snowfall is expected after midnight tonight and into early Thursday morning. By mid morning the snow will have tapered to a few flurries or showers. Total snowfall amounts will vary significantly with elevation; higher elevations will see total amounts between 20 to 25 centimetres whereas lower elevations can expect closer to 15 centimetres. Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions. If visibility is reduced while driving, slow down, watch for tail lights ahead and be prepared to stop. Snowfall warnings are issued when significant snowfall is expected. Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada.   • Highway 3 - Paulson Summit to Kootenay Pass

Snowfall with total amounts of 15 to 25 cm is expected. Where: Highway 3 - Paulson Summit to Kootenay Pass. When: Tonight and into Thursday morning. Remarks: Moisture is being pumped up into the region from the south and is running into cold air being pushed down from the north creating periods of heavy snow for the highway. The heaviest snowfall is expected after midnight tonight and into Thursday morning. Between 15 to 25 centimetres of snow is expected by the time the snow tapers off to a few flurries Thursday morning. Rapidly accumulating snow could make travel difficult over some locations. Weather in the mountains can change suddenly resulting in hazardous driving conditions. If visibility is reduced while driving, slow down, watch for tail lights ahead and be prepared to stop.
