FREEZING RAIN WARNING

Freezing Rain Warning in effect for:
  • Corner Brook and vicinity

Ice build-up due to freezing rain is expected or occurring. Locations: the west coast of Newfoundland from Corner Brook to Hawke's Bay. Freezing rain duration: 6 to 10 hours, except 4 to 6 hours along parts of the coast. Time span: overnight and Tuesday morning. Similar storms in the past have caused: - hazardous driving conditions - disruptions to transportation networks and public services Remarks: The freezing rain will be preceded by 5 to 10 cm of snow and ice pellets. Motorists should exercise caution if travelling on Tuesday morning as lower elevation areas near the coast will experience the transition to rain earlier than higher elevation areas. Be prepared for changing road conditions with elevation changes. Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots will become icy, slippery and hazardous. Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions. Freezing rain warnings are issued when rain falling in sub-zero temperatures creates ice build-up and icy surfaces. Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to NLstorm@ec.gc.ca or post reports on X using #NLwx.
