High northeasterly winds reaching up to 90 kilometres per hour are expected this afternoon and this evening. Loose objects may be tossed by the wind and cause injury or damage. STORM SURGE WARNING

Storm Surge Warning in effect for:
  • Coastline from Forillon Nat. Park to Saint-Georges-de-Malbaie incl. Gaspé

Higher than normal water levels and large waves are expected near the coast this evening. The combination of - strong to high northeasterly winds - a major surge - and a period of medium tidal range could produce breaking sea conditions along the coast on Saturday evening in some areas of the tip of the Gaspé Peninsula. Additional information: A major low pressure system will intensify over the Maritimes today. Buildings located in areas prone to storm surges could be flooded. Flooding is possible along the coastline. Coastal erosion is possible in vulnerable areas.

Rain, at times heavy, is expected. What: 50 to 70 millimetres of rain near the coastline of the tip of the Gaspé Peninsula. When: until Sunday evening. Additional information: rain may, at times, be mixed with with snow in some areas. Over higher terrain, precipitation will fall mainly as snow. Snowfall amounts near 10 centimetres are possible. Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible. Be prepared for possible winter conditions at higher elevations. Rainfall warnings are issued when significant rainfall is expected. Rain and snow on tap for the weekend. What: - Rainfall amounts of 40 to 60 millimetres near the tip of the Gaspé Peninsula. - Snowfall amounts near 10 centimetres over higher terrain. - Strong northeasterly winds. When: from this evening through Sunday evening. The strongest winds are expected Saturday late in the day. Additional information: precipitation type will switch between rain and snow depending on elevation and proximity to the shoreline. Higher terrain will mostly receive snow while coastal regions will primarily see rain. However, even the shoreline may see periods of snow, depending on local temperature variations.
