A prolonged period of heavy rain is expected. Locations: the south coast of Newfoundland. Total rainfall: Channel-Port aux Basques to Burgeo - Ramea: 80 to 140 mm. Connaigre to the southern Avalon Peninsula: 70 to 100 mm. Time span: continuing today and tonight. Similar storms in the past have caused: - the overflowing of creeks and rivers - road shoulder erosion and washouts Heavy downpours are likely to cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible. Don't approach washouts near rivers, creeks and culverts. Rainfall warnings are issued when significant rainfall is expected.
