A prolonged period of heavy rain is expected. Locations: the south coast of Newfoundland. Total rainfall: Channel-Port aux Basques to Burgeo - Ramea: 80 to 120 mm. Connaigre to the southern Avalon Peninsula: 60 to 80 mm. Time span: tonight through Sunday night. Similar storms in the past have caused: - the overflowing of creeks and rivers - road shoulder erosion and washouts Remarks: Rain will develop over southwestern Newfoundland early this evening and will spread to the southern Avalon Peninsula by late overnight tonight. The heaviest rain is expected on Sunday. Heavy downpours are likely to cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible. Don't approach washouts near rivers, creeks and culverts. Rainfall warnings are issued when significant rainfall is expected.
