FREEZING RAIN WARNING

Freezing Rain Warning in effect for:
  • Elliot Lake - Ranger Lake

Hazardous ice storm this evening and overnight tonight. What: Freezing rain with significant ice accretion of 10 to 20 mm. Icy and slippery conditions. Utility outages and tree damage. When: Continuing this evening through early Monday morning. Additional information: A prolonged period of freezing rain is expected. For some areas, this has the potential to be a major ice storm. Freezing rain may change over to rain this evening for locations near the North Channel and the city of North Bay as temperatures briefly rise above the freezing mark. Precipitation will transition to ice pellets and then snow from west to east Monday morning. Easterly winds will become northerly on Monday morning with gusts up to 50 km/h. This may exacerbate the situation if there is ice build-up on tree limbs and power lines. Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots will become icy, slippery and extremely hazardous. Extended and widespread utility outages are possible. Beware of branches or electrical wires that could break under the weight of ice. Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to ONstorm@ec.gc.ca or post reports on X using #ONStorm.
