Heavy rain continues. Total rainfall: 80 to 130 mm, with locally higher amounts possible. Locations: Avalon Peninsula, Burin Peninsula, Connaigre, Bonavista Peninsula, and Clarenville and Vicinity. Time span: heaviest today, ending Saturday morning. Similar storms in the past have caused: - the overflowing of creeks and rivers - flooding of basements, especially in poor drainage areas - road shoulder erosion and washouts - scattered utility outages Remarks: Rainfall rates near 20 mm per hour may occur over some areas. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Don't approach washouts near rivers, creeks and culverts. Rainfall warnings are issued when significant rainfall is expected.
