Rainfall Warning in effect for:
  • Sydney Metro and Cape Breton County

Rain, at times heavy, is expected. Locations: eastern mainland Nova Scotia and most of Cape Breton Island. Total rainfall: 50 to 70 mm, possibly higher over the Cape Breton Highlands. Time span: intensifying this morning, continuing until early this evening. Remarks: Rain will intensify this morning across the Atlantic Coast of Nova Scotia, before tapering off late this afternoon and into this evening. Rainfall rates in excess of 10 to 15 mm per hour are possible in the heaviest rain. Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible. Rainfall warnings are issued when significant rainfall is expected. Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. Strong winds that may cause damage are expected or occurring. Maximum wind gusts: 90 km/h along the Atlantic coast. Locations: Halifax County and eastern Nova Scotia. Time span: early this morning until this evening. Remarks: Easterly winds will peak in strength along the Atlantic coast this morning, and in the eastern Northumberland Straight in the mid to late morning period. Southerly winds will then develop this afternoon, likely reaching warning criteria across eastern Nova Scotia, before weakening later this evening. High winds may toss loose objects or cause tree branches to break. Wind warnings are issued when there is a significant risk of damaging winds.
