Major ice storm this weekend. What: Prolonged period of freezing rain. Significant ice accretion. General ice accretion amounts of 10 to 20 mm, with amounts in excess of 25 mm possible. Widespread power outages. Icy and slippery conditions. Significant precipitation possible which may lead to localized flooding. When: This evening into Sunday afternoon. The heaviest freezing rain is expected overnight into Saturday morning. Additional Information: The area will receive significant freezing rain over the weekend. Precipitation may begin as rain before changing over to freezing rain this evening. Areas near Lake Ontario may see lesser amounts of ice if temperatures moderate and precipitation falls as rain. For information concerning flooding, please consult your local Conservation Authority or Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources office. Visit Ontario.ca/floods for the latest details. Ice build-up may cause tree branches to break. Take extra care when walking or driving in affected areas. Consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve.
