STORM SURGE WARNING

Higher than normal water levels with large waves are expected near the coast on Saturday evening. The combination of - strong to high northeast winds - a major surge - and a period of medium tidal range could produce breaking sea conditions along the coast on Saturday evening in some areas of the tip of the Gaspé Peninsula. Additional information: A major low pressure system will intensify over the Maritimes on Saturday. Buildings located in areas prone to storm surges could be flooded. Flooding is possible along the coastline. Coastal erosion is possible in vulnerable areas.

SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT

Snow and rain on tap for the weekend. What: - Rainfall amounts of 40 to 60 millimetres near the tip of the Gaspé Peninsula. - Snowfall amounts near 10 centimetres over higher elevations. - Strong northeasterly winds. When: from this evening through Sunday evening. The strongest winds are expected Saturday late in the day. Additional information: precipitation type will switch between rain and snow depending on elevation and proximity to the shoreline. Higher terrain will mostly receive snow while coastal regions will primarily see rain. However, even the shoreline may see periods of snow, depending on local temperature variations.
