SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING
At 6:49 PM ADT, Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a severe thunderstorm capable of producing strong wind gusts, pea to dime size hail and heavy rain. A cluster of thunderstorms over central and eastern Nova Scotia are travelling northeastward at 50 km/h. Rainfall rates of 25 mm per hour or higher are occurring. Hail of 1 to 2 cm and wind gusts of 70 to 90 km/h are possible. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors! Severe thunderstorm warnings are issued when imminent or occurring thunderstorms are likely to produce or are producing one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall. Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to NSstorm@ec.gc.ca or tweet reports using #NSStorm.
