A strong low pressure system continues to develop over east-central Alberta today. This low will continue to track southeast through the province, bringing wind, rain and over higher elevations, snow.

An area of rain has developed through central parts of the province this morning and will track southward along the foothills into southern Alberta this afternoon. The heaviest rain will extend from just west of Edmonton to the Rocky Mountain and Nordegg regions. Rainfall amounts still look to stay in the 30 to 40 mm range, but some areas may see upwards of 50 mm, especially with any thunderstorms embedded in the rain. Rain will end on Thursday as the low pressure system moves out of the region.

In addition, higher elevations of the foothills and mountain parks may see precipitation fall as snow or a mixture of rain and snow. Some parts of these regions, may receive 5 to 10 of snow by this afternoon.

Finally, this system will bring strong northerly winds to much of the province. Beginning early Wednesday afternoon, much of western to southwestern Alberta may see gusts upwards of 80 km/h. Winds will begin to ease Wednesday evening as the low begins to track into Saskatchewan.
