Freezing rain warning in effect for:

  • Gatineau

Significant freezing rain is expected tonight into Tuesday.

Light snow is forecast to become heavier and mix with ice pellets this afternoon. Several centimetres of snow and ice pellets are likely before the precipitation changes to freezing rain this evening. An extended period of freezing rain is likely tonight into early Tuesday with several millimetres of ice accumulation. Roads will likely become slippery, initially due to snow followed by a layer of freezing rain. The commute this evening as well as the Tuesday morning commute will likely be impacted by icy roads.

Freezing rain will likely change to rain early Tuesday as temperatures rise above the freezing mark. However, over more eastern regions including the Ottawa Valley, the freezing rain may persist into Tuesday afternoon.

Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots will become icy, slippery and hazardous. Ice build-up may cause tree branches to break. Utility outages may occur.

Freezing rain warnings are issued when rain falling in sub-zero temperatures creates ice build-up and icy surfaces.
