Special weather statement in effect for:

  • Prince County P.E.I.

Heavy rain is likely to start on Friday night into Saturday and persist into Saturday night.

A low pressure system is forecast to sweep eastward across the Maritimes over the first half of the weekend, with rain reaching western New Brunswick on Friday night and exiting Cape Breton by early Sunday morning. At this time, forecast guidance indicates that total rainfall accumulations may reach or exceed 50 millimetres in some areas of southern New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, northern Nova Scotia, as well as Cape Breton Island. A quick return to fair weather is expected to follow by Saturday night or Sunday.

There is some uncertainty in the track and intensity of this system, and the amounts and areas expecting heaviest rain may be revised as it approaches. Meteorologists at Environment Canada will monitor its development and provide updates as further information becomes available.
