Special air quality statement in effect for:

  • Grand Falls-Windsor and vicinity

Smoke from wildfires will cause a reduction in air quality.

Locations: areas of central and northeastern Newfoundland downwind from ongoing wildfires.

Short range wind forecast: southwest 40 gusting 60 km/h diminishing to west 20 gusting to 40 overnight.

Remarks: Fire behaviour may change rapidly during strong winds; smoke concentrations will vary accordingly. On Monday, the smoke will retreat from the region as winds shift to northwesterly.

Individuals may experience symptoms such as increased coughing, throat irritation, headaches or shortness of breath. Children, seniors, and those with cardiovascular or lung disease, such as asthma, are especially at risk.
