10:59 AM AST Saturday 18 November 2017
Snowfall warning in effect for:
- Red Bay to L'Anse-au-Clair
Snowfall, with total accumulations of 15 to 20 cm forecast by this evening.
The heaviest snowfall is expected to extend from north of Red Bay towards Cartwright and from Cartwright Junction westward along the Trans Labrador Highway towards Happy Valley-Goose Bay. Snow should taper to scattered flurries tonight.
A mix of rain and snow is expected along the immediate coastline, as a northeasterly onshore flow keeps temperatures just above freezing. Total rainfall amounts of 10 to 25 mm are forecast along the coast, with only a trace to a few cm of snow expected.
Anyone planning travel today should prepare for winter driving conditions away from the coastline and are urged to check the latest forecast and road reports before departing.
Rapidly accumulating snow could make travel difficult over some locations.
Snowfall warnings are issued when significant snowfall is expected.
