Statements

10:52 AM AST Saturday 19 January 2019
Special weather statement in effect for:

  • Red Bay to L'Anse-au-Clair

Snow, blowing snow, and strong winds expected Sunday night and Monday.

An intense low pressure system approaching from the southwest will move to lie near western Newfoundland on Monday. Snow is expected to develop ahead of this system Sunday night. On Monday, the snow will combine with strong winds to give near zero visibilities in blowing snow.

While it is too soon to predict snowfall amounts, it does appear that snowfall warnings will be required for some areas. There is also potential for the snow to change to freezing rain for a period of time on Monday near the Strait of Belle Isle.
