Heat Warning in effect for:

  • Gander and vicinity

Hot weather will continue.

Locations: most of Newfoundland (except the Northern Peninsula and south coast).

Time span: continuing through today and Thursday for most areas.

Maximum daytime temperatures: 27 to 30 degrees Celsius, cooler in onshore winds.

Minimum overnight temperatures: 18 to 20 degrees Celsius.

Remarks: A wind shift to a more northerly direction Thursday night into Friday will end heat warnings for all areas.

Drink plenty of water even before you feel thirsty and stay in a cool place.

Watch for the symptoms of heat illness: dizziness/fainting; nausea/vomiting; rapid breathing and heartbeat; extreme thirst; decreased urination with unusually dark urine.

Keep your house cool. Block the sun by closing curtains or blinds.

Heat warnings are issued when very high temperature or humidity conditions are expected to pose an elevated risk of heat illnesses, such as heat stroke or heat exhaustion.
