Alerts for: Corner Brook and vicinity

Statements

3:50 PM NST Monday 22 January 2018
Special weather statement in effect for:

  • Corner Brook and vicinity

A mixed bag of precipitation is expected Tuesday night and Wednesday.
A low pressure system approaching from the Great Lakes is forecast to track northeastward along the St. Lawrence River Tuesday night and then move into southeastern Labrador late Wednesday.

Snow will begin over southwestern Newfoundland Tuesday evening and spread northeastward during the night. The snow will transition through ice pellets and freezing rain to rain on Wednesday over all areas of the Island.

Current guidance suggests rainfall amounts are expected to be much less than the January 12, 13 and 14th event. However, some areas along the Humber River and in the Bonne Bay area remain sensitive to water levels and erosion. The public is advised to watch for notices from local authorities, as it is unclear what effect more rain and another thaw will have in vulnerable areas.
