Warnings

4:36 AM CST Tuesday 18 January 2022
Snowfall warning in effect for:

  • North and South Moose Lake incl. Moose Lake Res.
  • The Pas Cormorant Westray and Wanless

Heavy snowfall continues in Manitoba today.

In general, 10 to 15 cm in total is expected over most regions as the low pressure system responsible for this weather moves towards Lake Superior. However, communities in the Manitoba Parklands could see total accumulations approach or locally exceed the 20 cm mark later today.

The snow will abate over western Manitoba this morning with eastern areas following by the afternoon.

Gusty northerly winds will follow the snow on the back side of this system. Gusts in excess of 60 km/h are possible over several regions later today. The combination of the freshly fallen snow and gusty winds will produce blowing snow that will could hamper visibilities on highways. Caution is advised if traveling today. Gusts will begin to diminish this evening prompting better visibilities by Wednesday morning.

Lastly, an arctic ridge of high pressure behind this storm system will bring a return of bitterly cold temperatures to the region, notably overnight Tuesday into Wednesday. Wind chill values will likely approach the minus 40 mark once again before temperatures moderate somewhat to end the week.

Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions. Rapidly accumulating snow will make travel difficult. Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow. If visibility is reduced while driving, turn on your lights and maintain a safe following distance.
