Alerts for: South Klondike Highway
6:16 AM MST Friday 30 October 2020
Winter storm warning in effect for:
- South Klondike Highway - Carcross to White Pass
Significant amounts of snow are expected.
The first significant storm of the season will give snowfall amounts of 20 to 30 cm by Saturday afternoon.
A Pacific frontal system will move into the Gulf of Alaska tonight and then remain stationary over the area this weekend. Light snow will develop for this afternoon and then become heavy at times tonight. Gusty south winds will also cause local blowing snow on Saturday. Warmer air associated with the system may cause a changeover to rain Saturday afternoon before switching back to snow Saturday evening. Another snowstorm is possible by Sunday night.
Consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve. Prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions. Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow.
Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to YTstorm@canada.ca or tweet reports using #YTStorm.
