COASTAL FLOODING WARNING
- Labrador Coastline: Hopedale and vicinity
This warning is in effect for parts of the coast due to the following hazard(s): Moderate storm surge. Very high tides. Higher than normal water levels. Locations: coastal Labrador from Nain to Nunaksaluk Island, especially northeast-facing shorelines. Time span: this morning. Most significant near high tide. Maximum water levels: exceeding high astronomical tide, with water inundating vulnerable sections of coastline. High tide: 6:00 A.M. to 10:00 A.M. this morning. Remarks: A combination of very high tides, large waves, and storm surge will produce higher than normal water levels along the coast. Large waves can cause coastal erosion in vulnerable areas, as well as damage to infrastructure along the shoreline. Additionally, the lack of sea ice could lead to coastal flooding in areas that have typically not experienced it in the past. Roads and walkways may be difficult to navigate due to flooding and/or debris, such as driftwood and rocks. Damage to anchored or beached boats, wharfs, boat houses or fishing stages along the shoreline is likely. Coastal flooding warnings are issued when high water levels pose a threat to coastal regions due to tides, storm surge and/or waves. Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to NLstorm@ec.gc.ca or post reports on X using #NLwx.
