ORANGE WARNING - COLD

Impact Level: High

Forecast Confidence: High

A multi-day episode of very cold wind chills is expected. Hazard: Wind chill values of -40 to -45. Location: Southern Manitoba Timing: Beginning Wednesday overnight and lasting at least 3 days. Remarks: A colder and windier air mass is moving into Manitoba, bringing falling temperatures and wind chill values dropping into the -40 to -45 range. Wind chill values may improve slightly during daytime hours, but are expected to drop back below -40 each night for the next several nights. Extreme cold puts everyone at risk. Dress warmly. Dress in layers that you can remove if you get too warm. The outer layer should be wind resistant. Cover up. Frostbite can develop within minutes on exposed skin, especially with wind chill. Keep emergency supplies in your vehicle such as extra blankets and jumper cables. Outdoor workers should take regularly scheduled breaks to warm up. For more information on cold and your health, visit Manitoba Health at gov.mb.ca/health/publichealth/environmentalhealth/cold.html or call Health Links - Info Santé at 204-788-8200 or toll-free at 1-888-315-9257.
