Heavy rain is expected. What: Rainfall amounts 80 to 110 mm. Where: Fraser Valley - central including Chilliwack and east including Hope, Hope Slide, and Highway 3 - Hope to Princeton (western sections). When: Now through this evening. Remarks: An atmospheric river over the South Coast of BC is bringing heavy rain today. Warm air with the system will cause freezing levels to rise and snowmelt combined with the already saturated ground and heavy rain, will likely result in high streamflows and localized flooding. Localized flooding is likely. Some roads may become impassable. Visibility will likely be suddenly reduced at times. Weather in the mountains can change suddenly resulting in hazardous driving conditions. Don't drive through flooded roadways. Stay away from rivers, creeks and culverts. What: Snowfall accumulations of 20 to 40 cm. When: Now through tonight. Where: Trans-Canada Highway from Eagle Pass to Rogers Pass. Remarks: A moist Pacific frontal system moving across the interior will bring heavy precipitation to the Columbias. Heavy snow will continue near the pass today through tonight. As snow levels rise this afternoon, snow may change to rain along portions of Highway 1. Total snowfall accumulations of 20 to 40 cm are expected near the pass by early Thursday morning. Roads and walkways may be very difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow. Visibility may be reduced at times. Rain, at times heavy, is expected. What: Snow changing to heavy rain early this morning. Total rainfall of 60 to 80 mm by early Thursday morning. When: Now through tonight. Where: Coquihalla Highway – Hope to Merritt. Remarks: An atmospheric river will arrive on the South Coast of B.C., bringing snow to the Coquihalla Summit. Warm air associated with the system will cause the snow to change to rain early this morning. Heavy rain will then persist through tonight before tapering off early Thursday morning. The highest rainfall amounts, up to 80 mm, are expected near Hope. Snow levels will lower to near the summit tonight, and rain may change back to snow near the summit with up to 10 cm of accumulation possible. Snowmelt combined with heavy rain may lead to high streamflows and localized flooding. Water will likely pool on roads and in low-lying areas. Some travel delays are possible.
