Special Weather Statement in effect for:
  • Bay of Exploits

Significant rainfall and strong winds are expected. Location: most of Newfoundland, except the south coast. Time span: Monday night until Wednesday afternoon. Potential wind gusts (Tuesday): southeasterly 60 to 70 km/h, except 100 to 110 along the west coast in areas prone to enhanced southeasterlies. Potential wind gusts (Tuesday night and Wednesday): south to southeasterly 80 to 100 km/h except up to 120 along parts of the coast; shifting to west to southwesterly 80 km/h except 100 along parts of the coast. Potential rainfall: 40 to 60 mm, higher amounts possible over western areas. Remarks: A developing weather system is expected to bring a period of prolonged and significant rainfall. There is some uncertainty as to where the highest rainfall amounts will occur. Along the west coast, precipitation will change to rain showers or flurries as temperatures drop on Wednesday before precipitation finally tapers off Wednesday night. Monitor ferry, transit, or flight schedules in case of delays or disruptions. Clear storm drains and gutters of leaves and other debris in advance of the rainfall.
