YELLOW WARNING - WINTER STORM
Impact Level: Moderate
Forecast Confidence: High
A period of blizzard conditions is expected. Locations: Grand Falls and vicinity, and Buchans and the interior. Total snowfall: near 35 cm. Maximum wind gusts: Monday night northwesterly 90 km/h. Time span: continuing until Tuesday morning. Similar storms in the past have caused: - school closures and cancellations of community activities - disruptions to public services Remarks: A period of northeasterly winds with snow at times heavy and local blowing snow is expected Monday ahead of an approaching storm system. Behind this system, cold temperatures combined with fresh snowfall and intense northwesterly winds will result in a period of blizzard-like conditions with near-zero visibility in widespread blowing snow Monday night. Secure loose objects around your property that could be blown away. Take steps to be prepared for utility outages. Keep mobile devices charged. Consider postponing non-essential travel and outdoor activities until conditions improve. Winter Storm Warnings are issued when multiple types of severe winter weather (such as snow, freezing rain, wind and rain) are expected or occurring. Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to NLstorm@ec.gc.ca or post reports on X using #NLwx.
