COASTAL FLOODING STATEMENT

Coastal Flooding Statement in effect for:
  • Southern Shoreline of Bonavista Bay

This statement is in effect for parts of the coast due to the following hazard(s): Very high tides. Higher than normal water levels. Locations: the northeastern coast of Newfoundland from the eastern Avalon to St. Lunaire-Griquet, especially along northern facing shorelines. Maximum wave heights: 3 to 5 metres, breaking upon approach to shore. Time span: until Friday morning, especially near high tide. High tide times: 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. this evening. 7:00 A.M. to 10:00 A.M. Friday morning. Remarks: Long-period swells from the recent storm may continue to produce large breaking waves that drive water farther up onto exposed shorelines. Persistent wave action and surf could elevate coastal water levels beyond normal high tide levels. Coastal erosion may occur in vulnerable locations. Low-lying coastal infrastructure may be at risk of flooding or damage. Avoid affected shorelines where hazardous conditions may develop. Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to NLstorm@ec.gc.ca or post reports on X using #NLwx.
