YELLOW WATCH - WINTER STORM

Impact Level: Moderate

Forecast Confidence: High

Hazardous winter conditions are possible. Locations: southwestern Newfoundland. Potential snowfall: 15 to 25 cm, with higher amounts possible inland and over higher terrain. Potential wind gusts: northeasterly 60 km/h, shifting to northwesterly 80 to 100 km/h. Time span: overnight Sunday until Tuesday morning. Similar storms in the past have caused: - school closures and cancellations of community activities - disruptions to public services - delays or cancellations of ferry services Remarks: An approaching weather system appears likely to bring adverse winter weather to the region. The combination of snow and strong winds is likely to result in blizzard-like conditions with poor visibility. There is uncertainty as to how much snow will fall, but the worst conditions are expected to be inland and over higher terrain. Roads and walkways may be difficult to navigate. Visibility may be suddenly reduced to near zero at times. Consider rescheduling travel and outdoor activities. Winter Storm Watches are issued when hazardous winter weather conditions are possible. Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to NLstorm@ec.gc.ca or post reports on X using #NLwx.
