Wind Warning in effect for:
  • Bay St. George

Strong winds that may cause damage are expected. Location: the west coast of Newfoundland. Maximum wind gusts (tonight and Tuesday): southeasterly 80 to 90 km/h, except 110 in areas prone to enhanced southeasterlies. Maximum wind gusts (Wednesday): southwesterly 80 km/h, except 100 to 120 along parts of the coast. Time span: overnight tonight until Wednesday evening. Remarks: Local enhancement in southeasterly flow typically occurs in the vicinities of Cape St. George, Port au Port Bay, the outer Bay of Islands, Trout River Bay, Bonne Bay, Western Brook Pond, St. Paul's Bay, Parson's Pond River, and St. John Bay. High-sided vehicles will be pushed around by the wind. Secure loose objects. Prepare for possible disruptions to transportation, services, and utilities. Wind warnings are issued when there is a significant risk of damaging winds. Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. Rain, at times heavy, is expected. Locations: Bay St. George and Corner Brook and vicinity. Total rainfall: 40 to 60 mm, with locally higher amounts possible. Time span: near midnight tonight until Wednesday morning. Remarks: The heaviest rainfall is expected Tuesday night. Rainfall rates of 5 mm per hour or more are possible over some locations. Water will likely pool on roads and in low-lying areas. Some travel delays are possible. Rainfall warnings are issued when significant impacts are expected due to rainfall amounts.
