YELLOW WARNING - WINTER STORM

Impact Level: Moderate

Forecast Confidence: High

Snow, blowing snow, and strong winds are expected. Locations: Clarenville, Terra Nova, and the Bonavista Peninsula. Total snowfall: 15 to 20 cm (late this afternoon through tonight). Maximum wind gusts: northwesterly 80 km/h except 110 along parts of the coast (strongest near midnight). Remarks: Easterly winds will gradually strengthen as the snow commences, before shifting to stronger northwesterlies later this evening as snowfall rates ease. Cold temperatures combined with fresh snowfall and strong winds could result in a period of blizzard-like conditions with near-zero visibility in blowing snow. Consider adjusting any non-essential travel and outdoor activities planned for tonight. Roads and walkways will likely be difficult to navigate. Be very careful if walking or driving. Winter Storm Warnings are issued when multiple types of severe winter weather (such as snow, freezing rain, wind and rain) are expected or occurring. Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to NLstorm@ec.gc.ca or post reports on X using #NLwx.
